Will You Tarry?

There are times in life when an unexpected moment arises that is so beautiful, we are compelled to respond in some way: the crescent moon hanging in a pre-dawn sky, an oceanscape so dramatic we have to pull over to examine it closer. Other moments are quieter: the symmetry of a leaf or the tender moment between a child and her mother. These can be easily missed in the rush and oversaturation of everyday life.

Will You Tarry? presents an invitation. Rooted in the tradition of Shemini Atzeret, this body of work explores what it means to savor the sweetness of something longer than its allotted time. Each piece expresses something of the human capacity to stay. Some present reflection; others evoke a sense of grief, celebration, stillness, yearning, or nostalgia.

Shemini Atzeret is considered a special time set aside to further community and afford an encounter with the divine. Art, in a similar way, offers a space for lingering and experience. Both observe a breaking of time in order to reveal the abundance of meaning in the present. Take your time with each artwork, and tarry a while with us. Maybe you will discover something you did not see before.
